About Me – Steph, Founder of Heartland Designs

Hi, I’m Steph, the proud owner of Heartland Designs. I was born with an intellectual disability and severe anxiety, and for years, doctors and therapists told me I wouldn't be able to accomplish much. I was told I’d be useless to society and that I should simply accept that. But I refuse to accept that narrative. I'm here to tell you that I'm not useless, and I certainly don't plan on spending my life waiting for permission to chase my dreams.

Two years ago, I had the idea to start selling my handmade products. In 2023, I took a huge step forward by attending six months of mentoring through the Be Your Own Boss Program, and in 2024, I hit the ground running by attending various markets to introduce my work to the local community. After months of careful thought, I finally settled on the name Heartland Designs—because every piece I create is made with love, care, and deep thought.

In 2025, I’m making the leap to take my business online, continuing to grow and share what I’ve worked so hard to build.

My Passion for Creativity and Nature

I’ve been passionate about photography since I was a teenager, especially in landscape, astrophotography (the night sky), and wildlife. Sunrises and sunsets always amaze me—though they don’t always look “perfect,” there’s always something beautiful in the simplicity of the moment. I love capturing the beauty of nature as it truly is, without any filter, so when you see one of my photos, it’s the real thing, just as stunning in person as it is in the shot.

Creativity is at the heart of everything I do. Whether I’m working with my laser to engrave images, crafting with resin, or simply creating handmade cards and gift tags, I love experimenting with new materials and bringing ideas to life with my hands.
